The Government of India has launched a major national mission to convert 100 million tonnes of coal into syngas by 2030 — backed by billions of dollars in incentives for investors in coal gasification. Rawanwara North's G6 coal is the perfect fuel for it.

The scheme

A multi-billion-dollar national bet

Coal gasification is the Government of India's flagship scheme for the sector, with an incentive outlay of the order of US$ 3.7 billion committed to seed investment in gasification projects — from a US$ 1 billion pilot incentive rolled out in 2024 to a further multi-billion-dollar approval expected to catalyse nearly US$ 30 billion of total investment.

Gasification converts coal into syngas (CO + H₂), which becomes methanol, ammonia, green hydrogen carriers, olefins and petrochemicals — moving coal up the value chain from fuel to feedstock, and substituting imports of each of those products.

Why G6

The perfect gasification fuel

Gasifier economics hinge on feedstock quality. G6 coal is the sweet spot: high enough in calorific value (5,500–5,800 kcal/kg) for efficient syngas yield, yet available at meaningful scale — grades above G6 are found only in very small quantities in India.

India's coal is generally high in ash, which is why standard international gasifiers do not work here and Indian engineers are developing custom systems. A premium low-band feedstock like Rawanwara North's G6 dramatically simplifies that engineering problem — making the block a strategic supply source for gasification projects, not just a thermal fuel.
